Summer Jam is the biggest street ball event in Australia touring across 2 cities in Melbourne and Perth for over 11 years. This year the event went down over the weekend of 14th and 15th January at Forrest Chase, Murray Street mall.
The best street ball players travelled across the nation and competed for the national championship in the most iconic street basketball courts in Australia. Industry heavy weights Jordan brand and Foot Locker sponsored an incredible free event.
Which attracted families, basketball fans and sneaker heads that came together and enjoyed an action packed day but the massive weekender wouldn’t have been possible without the awesome event organisers, 2 Way. Their diligent, hard work was evident in the event’s turn out and overall good vibes.
Amongst the serious rounds of basketball there was a slam dunk contest, a Red Bull half court, food trucks, a barber shop, DJs, a live artist and of course Aether Care courtside.
Our sport locker backdrop activation catered for the players and patrons alike where they sat back and enjoyed our sneaker cleaning service. Including a complimentary application of antibacterial spray on their favourite basketball jerseys.
Our core range of sneaker and garment care products were also be available for purchase along with our latest collection of Aether Care wearables.
The action started early on the first day of weekender with a 3 on 3 half court comp compliments of Red Bull and as the day progressed. Perth truly showed its love for the game as the crowds came in droves.
But still, the heads coming in through the gates couldn’t compare to the second day of proceedings where the actual Summer Jam comp took place. The energy was electric as the first match went into triple overtime setting the day up for an amazing Sunday of contests.
As the crowds flocked in and out of Forrest Chase watching from the ground and its mezzanine walkway, eating and drinking from a multitude of vendors. Getting their edges lined up at the mobile barber and even a teeth whitening service with hi-smile, the teams continued go head to head amping up the energy with each elimination.
While the Summer Jam comp was the main attraction, we couldn’t deny the excitement and anticipation surrounding the slam dunk contest with Nic Naitanui and Corey ‘Chomicide” Williams as the judges. The level of dunking was of international quality and this part of the weekend was held right before the semi finals.
The Real Frequent Flyer did not disappoint amongst the other contestants as gravity defying feats were executed with ease. Check out the video above on some of the high flying action in the dunk contest.
As the day came to an end, it welcomed Hoopwithem as this years champions taking out the Perth leg of the competition. Will they succeed in dominating the 3 day mammoth Summer Jam event in Melbourne?
We really hope so as we fully enjoyed everything this event represented for the game and the true champions it attracts. We hope to see you at next year’s Summer Jam.
